OECD-ANACOM Expert Workshop on Measuring Mobile/Wireless Service Data, Lisbon, Portugal, 19-20 February 2009

The OECD and the Portuguese telecommunication regulator, ANACOM, will hold an expert workshop on 19-20 February 2009 to produce a methodology for collecting wireless broadband subscription data, categorising their differences in terms of bandwidth and data/bit caps and comparing their prices. The outcome of the meeting should formulate the basis for wireless data collection and reporting in the future. It is aimed at experts in the area of data collection and those dealing with high speed mobile broadband issues.

The US Federal Trade Commission, in conjunction with the OECD and APEC, will host a conference on 16-17 March 2009 in Washington DC on “Securing Personal Data in the Global Economy.” The conference will address how companies can manage personal data-security issues in a global information environment where data can be stored and accessed from multiple jurisdictions.

Ensuring a safe and secure ICT environment and protecting children is a concern shared by OECD countries and non member economies. A joint APEC-OECD Symposium will take place on 15 April 2009 in Singapore to foster an exchange of best practices to promote a safer Internet environment for children. OECD participation in this event follows-up on the Seoul Ministerial Declaration on the Future of the Internet Economy’s call for an exchange of best practices on the protection of children online, with a focus on filtering and other technologies, in order to determine future directions and to improve awareness within the region.

OECD Conference on ICTs, the Environment and Climate Change, Copenhagen, Denmark, 27-28 May 2009

The OECD conference on green ICTs, will be held 27-28 May 2009 in Denmark, hosted by the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation – National IT and Telecom Agency and opened by the OECD Secretary-General and the Danish Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. It will bring together policy-makers and major stakeholders and will contribute to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in 2009 (COP15), as well as to ongoing OECD work on ICTs and the environment. This conference follows on from the Workshop held in May 2008.

OECD Conference on Sensor-Based Environments, Lisbon, Portugal, 8-9 June 2009

Portugal will host an OECD conference on Sensor-Based Environments on 8-9 June 2009. The objective of the event is to bring together policy makers, researchers, business and civil society to better understand how sensor-based and ubiquitous computing technologies can help address some of the most important global challenges (e.g. health and ageing, transportation, environment, security and defense) and what policy makers can do to stimulate innovation in this area. This conference will follow up on previous OECD work on RFID.
